I've always been a dreamer, a romantic, and an artist. I've been told more than once that I have my 'head in the clouds.' I admit that is true. I see the world differently. Maybe that is why I like watercolor so much. It is fluid and free and has a hard time playing by the rules. I had a traditional art education but I just couldn't seem to follow the rules either. I kept asking, "What if I did this?" Or, "What if I changed that?"
Early on I developed a loose style of watercolor painting and over time it has evolved to my own very loose style. I like to start a story with my paintings but then, I want the person looking at them to find their own story, and finish what I started. That is how I connect with the collector, by creating a story telling relationship. My desire is to do more than paint a pretty picture. I want to create art that connects us through memories, feelings, and beauty.
I like to think of my paintings as a love letter to the people, places, and moments that make up the human experience.
Sue
I'm the more pragmatic part of our artist business. Before starting Peace, Love, Art LLC, I earned a PhD in Higher Education Administration from the University of Denver. I held a variety of positions as both professor and administrator. These days, however, my full-time career is working alongside Steve as the business and marketing half of Peace, Love, Art LLC/SteveGriggsWatercolor. I granted myself the fancy title of Artist Whisperer and Business Director,
My roles include pretty much everything that doesn't involve holding a paint brush. I write and maintain our social media accounts, website, and newsletter as well as schedule workshops and demonstrations. I also handle all sales and answer email.
Being part of this team is deeply rewarding for me. I have watched Steve paint for many years and has seen how people respond to his beautiful and evocative style. I firmly believe the world needs more beauty and Steve's art is one way for that to happen!
